Abstract

Nosocomial infection as a global health care issue can increase mortality and morbidity, length of stay, and hospitalization costs. One of the strategies to handle nosocomial infection is by doing standard precautions principle. Standard precaution is infection prevention and controlling principle in health care. This research aimed to identify the factors that influence nurses in applying standard precautions . The research was conducted in Emergency Department of Toto Kabila District Hospital, Bone Bolango Regency on june18th -  july 20th 2018. The research used cross sectional design with exact fisher test. The research used total sampling technique with 16 respondents. Data were collected by observation paper and questionnaires that had been tested by validity and reliability test. The result of the research showed that knowledge of respondents consisted of 62,5 % good knowledge and 37,5 % lack knowledge. Workload of respondents consisted of 50 % light workload and 50% heavy workload. Facilities of respondents consisted of  56,2 % sufficient facilities and 43,8 insufficient facilities. Behavior of respondents consisted of 62,5 good behavior and 37,5 lack behavior. There is relation between behavior and knowledge (0,008) and facilities (0,035). There is no relation between behavior and workload(0,119). the factors that influence nurses in applying standard precautions are knowledge and facilities. The Management division of hospital should give training to nurses and provide sufficient facilities
