It provides contextual frameworks for research, to support academic and public engagement with refereed publications.

As an open-source software, OJS is freely available to journals globally, promoting open-access publishing as a sustainable option. Open access broadens readership and amplifies a journal's contribution to the global dissemination of knowledge for the public good (see PKP Publications).
